What is Anorexia?
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that is characterized by a distorted body image, low body weight combined with an obsessive fear of weight gain. An anorexic controls their weight by starvation, exercise, vomiting and purging. Other factors include:
- Refusing to eat, or eating small amounts
- To control weight an anorexic is obsessed with ways to avoid food
- Intense fear of gaining weight
- Exercises constantly and has distorted body image
- Getting thinner and thinner, causing medical problems
- Can literally starve to death
