Partial Hospitalization Program at The Bella Vita
We strive to create a comfortable, nurturing environment based on building trust. We promise to ease your pressure and soothe your worries, while giving you an environment that is structured; yet nurturing. We wish to make your experience conducive to learning the skills that enable you to start changing your life.
The Bella Vita offers two separate types of care for both adults and adolescents, depending on the level of treatment you may require. Although the majority of those suffering from eating disorders are female, we treat both men/boys and women/girls. Each program focuses on your individual needs, encouraging you to take an active role in expressing your feelings, thoughts and goals. Depending on the patient's level of need, they may see entry into either the Partial Hospitalization Program or Residential or Inpatient, as discussed at time of consultation.
The purpose of our Partial Hospitalization program is to help you understand and overcome your eating disorder and related disorders in a structured day treatment program, integrating what you learn during therapy into your living environment. This intensive approach is most appropriate for patients who have more severe symptoms, and may require a more structured environment. You may be someone who enters our program at this level, or someone who might be thinking about a higher level of care such as inpatient or residential program.
The Partial Hospitalization Program offers the benefit of your own personalized support staff eight hours per day, engaging in different types of activities, conversations and exercises geared towards placing you on the path to healing, and teaching you how to independently walk that path. It is our unique way of bringing a more intensive approach of an inpatient hospital program, into a less restrictive environment.
In our weekly sessions, we may focus on the patients' weekend experiences, previous weeks' goals, and the setting of current week's goals. In addition, we afford the patients the opportunity to focus specifically on dynamics occurring during their treatment and on processing feelings connected with group dynamics. Through a step-by-step process the patients challenge their own feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. They learn their cognitive distortions and how to cognitively restructure for a healthier, more productive, and realistic life.
They learn how to be mindful in the present moment, manage emotion regulation issues, be skillful in the use of coping skills and be effective in interpersonal relationships.
Outpatient Programs Offered
Depending on a program's specific attendance schedule, is four (4) hours per day, up to six (6) days per week, during initial phases of this level of treatment. These sessions typically take place during convenient afternoon and evening hours, so that those with active daily schedules can engage in their treatment and effectively integrate what they learn into their daily lives.
Certain individuals may enter directly into this level of care, depending upon specific criteria met for this level of care. Details like these are left to the discretion of the attending clinician, and are assessed on a case by case basis.
Families may meet periodically with the patient in a multi-family group atmosphere from time to time. The purpose of this group is to educate family member of eating disorders dynamics, explore family relationships, improve communication skills, allow for the individualization of the patient as well as each family member, and work at maintaining a cohesive family unit in the process of resolution. Through the instrument of creating ones own genogram and grasping their family dynamics, the patient becomes equipped with greater understanding of themselves in their family as well as in their interpersonal relationships with the family. We believe strongly in the impact of family involvement, and encourage it on all possible levels.
