National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

The Bella Vita is conducting several events to help raise awareness and understanding regarding eating disorders. We believe the only way we can reduce the stigma that surrounds eating disorders and get those the help they need is to start talking about it.

We trust in the power of partnerships, so we have joined together with Pierce College, Pasadena Community College, Cal Tech, USC, Cal State L.A., Occidental College, Fuller Seminary, Pasadena Unified High School District, LAUSD, NAMI, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and LETS to promote awareness and understanding of eating disorders through talks, booths, and events.

Follow us on Facebook to view pictures from our events, learn more about helpful resources and participate in our National Eating Disorder Awareness Week Facebook contest with prizes!

We know YOU can make a difference too! Would you like us to help you plan an event, booth or talk for your community, organization or school? Contact us Here!

WEEK OF EVENTS

We will be partnering with our friends at LETS (Let's Erase the Stigma), a non-profit educational foundation dedicated to reducing the stigma of mental illness through peer-to-peer education in high schools. The young leaders of the LETS Clubs will be working with us to raise awareness of eating disorders in high schools across Los Angeles throughout the week!

Learn more about the misconceptions held about eating disorders and the stigma that keeps people from getting help. Dr. Pitts discusses the importance of improved awareness and what simple things you can do to take action.

Although up to 24 million Americans are affected by an eating disorder, only 1 in 10 get help. Find out more about why this remains a silent health crisis.  Patricia Pitts, PhD, MFT, CEO and Founder of The Bella Vita, discusses how to identify the early signs & symptoms, what causes and supports them, and what a loved one or friend can do to help. Listen in on Tuesday, Feb. 26th at 1:30PM on www.KPCradio.com, "The Silhoutte", at Pierce College.

Hear Dr. Pitts share her story of her struggle with anorexia and how she conquered her own eating disorder on USC's News Radio Talk Show, "Conrad's Corner"
