What is Anorexia? 

Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder that is characterized by a distorted body image, low body weight combined with an obsessive fear of weight gain.  An anorexic controls their weight by starvation, exercise, vomiting and purging. Other factors include: 

  • Refusing to eat, or eating small amounts
  • To control weight an anorexic is obsessed with ways to avoid food
  • Intense fear of gaining weight
  • Exercises constantly and has distorted body image
  • Getting thinner and thinner, causing medical problems
  • Can literally starve to death
